Description The InFlight Standards Specialist position is fast-paced and dynamic. Organization, accuracy, and attention to detail are essential attributes of the successful candidate.


The InFlight Standards Specialist must be able to effectively:


  • Research, write, revise, and edit policy and standard operating procedures contained in revisions and temporary revisions of the InFlight Operations Manual, Exit Seat Program, Flight Attendant Handbook, and Carry-on Baggage Program; develop and revise and update other InFlight/Company manuals, as necessary
  • Create Revision Action Sheets and bulletins (when applicable) for manual revision and temporary revisions
  • Develop, update and maintain manual checklists and documents on SkyWest Online
  • Ensure InFlight manuals maintain regulatory compliance
  • Interface with InFlight, Flight Operations, Maintenance, Customer Service and Safety Departments to ensure consistency and compliance with policies and procedures
  • Review bulletins/updates/advisory circulars from mainline partners, internal departments, and applicable government agencies for applicability to InFlight; draft and distribute summaries of findings to key members of management
  • Create and publish InFlight bulletins, as necessary
  • Research, write, and edit content for weekly Online Update publications
  • Post and maintain Online Update archive files and summaries on SkyWest Online and the InFlight Standards server
  • Coordinate and maintain flight attendant verification lists for issued manuals, revisions and temporary revisions
  • Coordinate printing and distribution of InFlight manuals, revisions, temporary revisions, and other documents for internal and external manual holders
  • Develop and coordinate printing and distribution for passenger safety cards and InFlight forms
  • Update and maintain other airline operations manuals, FAA, TSA, DOT, OSHA, ADA, and other governmental guidance and regulatory material for the InFlight Standards reference library
  • Assist in implementation and adherence to procedures of InFlight Safety Management System (SMS) program
  • Read and evaluate InFlight irregular operations reports (IORs), as forwarded, in a timely manner and respond, as necessary
  • Assist in the preparation and completion of regulatory audits
  • Maintain and update reciprocal cabin jump-seat archive
  • Develop spreadsheets, audit/record forms, and reports, as necessary
  • Assist with updating and maintenance of FAA archive and FAA correspondence log
  • Research, update, and maintain InFlight Standards internal and external manual library
  • Receive and download AED information and forward to appropriate personnel
  • Maintain and update InFlight medical forms archive
  • Conduct aircraft conformity inspections on reconfigured or new aircraft, as necessary
  • Attend required Company meetings
  • Attend training, workshops and seminars pertinent to InFlight Standards Department’s policies and procedures
  • Maintain flight attendant qualifications (if held)
  • Fly trip/trip series, every 120 days in the operation, when FA qualification is held
  • Work 8 hours a day, during normal business hours, including nights and weekends as necessary
  • Requirements
  • Excellent researching, writing, and editing skills
  • Skilled with writing and editing policies and procedures for publication
  • Detail-oriented; accurate research skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects with differing completion dates concurrently
  • Knowledge of airline, regulatory, SkyWest, and InFlight policies and procedures and other department policies and procedures that interface with the InFlight Department (preferred)
  • Knowledge of FAA, TSA, DOT, OSHA and other applicable government regulations and directives, or ability to learn
  • Ability to learn and effectively research and interpret regulatory guidance
  • Ability to use critical thinking in order to prioritize and complete projects effectively, thoroughly, and accurately
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Ability to prioritize multiple concurrent projects effectively
  • Must be able to work with other departments in establishing authoring standards, policies and procedures
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to handle stressful situations professionally
  • Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, Adobe, and Editor software; able to operate office equipment and telephone systems
  • Ability to follow directions from supervisor; adhere to the directions given by the InFlight managers/directors/vice president
  • Must be courteous to coworkers and customers
  • Contributes to a positive work environment: regular attendance; undergo required random drug/alcohol testing as required by DOT and Company requirements; adhere to departmental and Company policy
  • Ability to work long periods of time sitting, working on a computer, and reading
  • Qualified SkyWest flight attendant in good standing (preferred)
