This dynamic company supports the other UIC subsidiaries as well as maintains its own project work. This position is expected to interface heavily with our clients and develop new opportunities. The Associate Scientist is expected to provide project management as well as project support for other staff. Our projects range from the oil and gas sector to infrastructure development to planning.

• Travel to remote communities in Alaska is required up to 25% annually
• Responsible for the direction and oversight of village based oil spill response teams’ operations and training activities
• Responsible for preparing and managing Environmental program including project estimates, budgets, and cost control
• Responsible for preparing and overseeing regulatory agency audits and inspections, e.g. Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE), United States Coast Guard (USCG), Alaska Occupational Safety and Health (AKOSH), Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC), and local emergency response agencies
• Responsible for communicating and coordinating with local and state regulatory agencies to prepare environmental plans and provide site updates and reports
• Prepare and deliver detailed reports and audits, to include company, local, state and federal compliance standards
• Ensure qualified staffing for emergency response operations and remediation efforts across northern Alaska
• Provide project support as needed for the Environmental Team
• Pursue project work, including proposals and other business development opportunities
• Mentor junior staff

Requirements Essential Knowledge, Skills and Expertise, Required Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in a natural resource or Occupational Health and Safety or related field
• Proficiency in Microsoft Suite Software
• Knowledge of A/E industry
• Strong ability for multi-tasking
• Must be personable, flexible, and professional.
• Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST) certified
• OSHA Instructor in Construction and General Industry
• 8-10 years of experience in spill response activities
• Experience in managing spill response drills for regulatory agencies
• Experience planning and managing multi-discipline development projects

Preferred Experience:

• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and/or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
• FEMA National Incident Management System Incident Command System core courses
• OSHA500 Series Training Courses - OSHA Standards for General/Construction Industry
