Description LAN/WAN ADMINISTRATOR (CBP-20-0061-F):

Bowhead is seeking LAN/WAN Administrators to support our customer in Springfield and Lorton Virginia. The LAN/WAN Administrator will monitor LAN, WAN, and servers as well as provide batch monitoring, tape back-up, and restoration. The LAN/WAN Administrators are responsible for administering the mail system, implementing new database architecture, and monitoring and conducting performance evaluation of networks. The LAN/WAN Administrators will support, install, maintain, and troubleshoot all local area and wide area networking devices and related software for branch offices and internal and external networks.

Specific tasks include:

• Monitoring LAN performance and make LAN upgrade recommendations using management/monitoring software.
• Performing diagnostic testing between network components.
• Performing configuration changes and network upgrades.
• Installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining network and network monitoring software (such as Solar Winds, etc.) and hardware, as required or directed by the Government.
• Installing and configuring network protocol software (e.g. Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) / Internet Protocol (IP).
• Installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining LANs using CBP approved operating systems.
• Installing and configuring Layer 3 switches.
• Installing and configuring network-monitoring server(s).
• Troubleshooting and repairing LAN lines.
• Troubleshooting and resolving network issues and problems.
• Documenting any existing and potential network problems during occurrence, and provide solutions.
• Documenting and coordinate with the NOC the assignment of static IP addresses.
• Generating network diagrams, rack elevations and documentation as requested by the Government.
• Traveling, (*Travel could be up to 25%, not a certainty it would be that much) as required or directed by the Government, to sites worldwide to install, troubleshoot and repair CBP LANs.
• Installing, configuring, and maintaining remote access devices and software.
• Diagraming, documenting, configuring and installing virtual local area networks (VLANs) in a requested format as requested by the Government.
• Analyzing hardware power requirements as well as heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) affects prior to upgrades and new equipment installs.
• Maintaining security of LAN rooms by following documented DHS and CBP security standards.
• Performing Wireless site surveys for design of new wireless or optimization of wireless infrastructure.
• Installing and configuring wireless access points and wireless access controllers.
• Installing and configuring switches per established CBP policies and procedures as required or directed.
• Facilitating the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of communications lines, to include but not limited to data circuits, wireless, microwave, and satellite systems.
• Installing, labeling, and troubleshooting internal network wiring.
• Configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting TCP/IP and other network protocols.

Candidates with a current Top Secret (SSBI) security clearance or current CBP suitability determination based on a CBP BI are highly encouraged to apply. Seek candidates with a current CCNA – Routing and Switching or CCNP Routing and Switching (or equivalent) as well as Security+(CE), CISSP, GSEC, SSCP or CCNA-Security certifications.

Requirements • Must have at least five (5+) years of network administration experience clearly showing experience with the tasks shown above
• Expert knowledge of network protocols, router and managed switch configurations, and extensive experience managing distributed networks
• Experience with long-haul technologies to potentially include wireless, microwave, and satellite communications
• Extensive troubleshooting experience
• Experience performing site surveys and installing wireless and wired networks
• Intermediate to expert knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio
• Skilled in oral and written communications in English
• Ability to work in a combined government / contractor team
• US citizenship is a contractual requirement

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIRED: - Candidates must have a current and favorably adjudicated SSBI, T5, or T5R, background investigation (such as is required for a TS, TS/SCI, or other critical/sensitive positions within the US Government)
