We are currently seeking a talented, recognized, and driven individual for transportation systems design in our Salt Lake City, UT office. The Senior Transportation Engineer will provide engineering expertise for local roads, collector, and arterial streets and highways (rural and urban expressways) projects including: corridor development and environmental studies, right-of-way layout, drainage and utility systems, preliminary and final roadway design, preparation of construction documents and cost estimates.

This position requires a working knowledge of the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) projects with an emphasis in location and design development, final design, estimating, and specifications preparation procedures. Must be able to work effectively and communicate regularly with clients and federal, state, and local agencies. Must have the ability to build relationships with existing clients and market to new municipalities and State DOT agencies.

Requires previous experience working on UDOT projects and a proven track record of successful transportation project design. This position offers exciting challenges and opportunities for leading design teams, mentoring young staff engineers, and participating in professional organizations and technical committees. Essential duties include:

  • Evaluates client needs and identifies requirements.
  • Prepares and modifies plans, specifications, reports, and designs for projects.
  • Oversees the preparation and production of reports, specifications, plans, and designs for projects.
  • Evaluates the need for design changes and makes appropriate recommendations.
  • Serves as technical liaison with clients on project efforts and coordinates technical efforts within discipline areas.
  • Participates in project scoping and fee estimating and proposal preparation, interviews, and negotiations to the extent required.
  • Oversees project tasks and sees the execution of tasks are begun and completed according to schedule.
  • Meets with client as necessary during the term of a project to resolve issues and to obtain approvals at the project’s completion. Provides excellent client service.
  • Tracks internal project schedules, budgets, and scopes.
  • Adheres to company standards for quality assurance and quality control as defined in the quality manual.
  • Implement UDOT Intelligent Design & Construction design and processes.
  • Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering
  • Possess a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience; Proficiency with AASHTO and UDOT design methods, standards, and specifications.
  • Proficient in MicroStation and InRoads SS4/OpenRoads
  • Proficient in roadway geometric design.
  • Utah Professional Engineer (PE) license is required
  • Excellent technical writing skills.
  • Proven leadership, communication, mentoring and client liaison skills
  • Local market knowledge required.
