For each of our practice areas, the Knowledge Manager plays a key role in developing and managing information and tools to support thought leadership.

The Science & Technology Knowledge Manager will achieve a deep knowledge of the firm’s core values and expertise to help advance and coordinate the firm’s expertise in Science & Technology. Working closely with the Global Science & technology Practice Chair and the Science & Technology leadership team, his/her work focuses on three main points:

• Facilitating the gathering and disseminating of practice-specific knowledge and resources;
• Practice-specific research on project types, industry, or civic-based research to assist in winning new work;
• Research analysis and applications for using practice-specific knowledge to be more successful.

The tasks associated with this position are prioritized by the Practice Chair for Science & Technology, based on what he feels is most important in developing the practice. These may include but are not limited to the following areas:


• Become familiar with our firm-wide S&T portfolio, manage print, online and image collateral
• Organize and coordinate our client focused annual symposium/conference “Convergence”
• Continue to develop our practice focused publication series including benchmarking books
• Coordinate Post Occupancy Evaluations - use the information to generate industry white papers. May require meeting with client decision makers to gather this info.
• Coordinate a more substantial and systematic assessment of our lab projects. Focus on research efficiency, costs, satisfaction with environment, energy usage etc.
• Work with the Practice Chair and regional leaders on long-lead significant pursuits; generate intel/research on projects, clients and new markets. Arrange and coordinate BD efforts to position our teams, in advance of the RFQ’s
• Mentor next generation of S&T leaders on presentation and submittal skills


INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS:
The Science & Technology Knowledge Manager supports internal communications regarding the practice by:
• Developing newsletters/updates for the practice leaders/practitioners across the firm
• Conducting trends research and benchmarking
• Assist in developing science & technology whitepapers
• Sharing industry knowledge through reports and summaries
• Managing the Science & Technology page on PULSE (Intranet site)
• Facilitating and organizing monthly practice calls, national practice retreats, and regional meetings

EXTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS:
The Science & Technology Knowledge Manager supports external communication and public relations regarding the practice by:
• Providing content for the Perkins+Will website (project update, image maintenance, articles, and videos) and social media platforms (Twitter, Blog, and Facebook)
• Support liaisons between Science & technology leadership and external practice-specific organizations
• Supporting PR by tracking practice-specific publications, speaking engagements lists, and event calendars

STRATEGIC PLANNING:
• Working with Practice Chair and Regional Practice Leaders on organizing annual / semi-annual strategic planning retreats
• Liaising with Marketing regarding strategies to achieve budgeting and sales goals

MARKETING:
The Science & Technology Knowledge Manager collects and maintains important information regarding projects, market, and practice. He/she will be responsible for:
• As necessary, assisting in the development of collateral materials (brochures and PPT’s)
• Maintaining boilerplate information and narratives
• Maintaining project lists
• Maintaining award lists and updating surveys and rankings
• Maintain existing Science & technology database of firm projects for reference
• Supporting marketing pursuits by assisting with questions regarding images, project data, and knowledge pieces
• Tracking and maintaining a calendar for major practice and expertise-specific conferences and programs
Requirements Qualifications
 Bachelor’s degree in marketing, planning, architecture, journalism, or other relevant related fields with 4-5 years of professional experience
 Preference for experience working in the Science & Technology fields
 Strong written and verbal communication skills and team ethic
 Exceptional research and organizational skills
 Ability to manage and engage a group of senior leaders in a positive and pro-active manner
 Ability to conduct self-directed research and analysis with limited supervision
 Strong Adobe InDesign, Illustrator + Photoshop, PowerPoint, Word and Excel software skills
 Ability to manage social media tools effectively for promoting the practice
 Availability to travel to various Perkins+Will offices from time to time
 Familiarity with Science & Technology public/private web knowledge sources, relevant trade organizations, publications and events a plus
