Statement of Position

The clinical informaticist is responsible for the optimization of the usability, workflow, and processes related to the electronic health record/population health system/clinical systems. The systems this position is responsible for is defined by the organization and may vary by individual. This position helps identify clinical and support staff requirements to enhance overall usability and performance of the system. This position also helps plan, build, design, develop, test, implement, support, and maintain the components of the system itself. Components will vary by system.

This clinical informaticist III is responsible for building and maintaining a training environment, creating actual classroom content, and preparing additional classroom trainers.  This position is responsible for administering training for new hires, refresher courses, and upgrades.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Acquires and maintains in-depth working "user" knowledge of the system.
  • Develops and maintains training materials
  • Trains new users of the system and all users in times of upgrades and with the introduction of new functionality.
  • Supports the implementation of upgrades to the system.
  • Assists with issue resolution, working with end users, OMC's Information Technology (IT) department and the vendor team.
  • Assists with the submission of service requests to the vendor as necessary, tracks status regularly, and escalates status when necessary.
  • Participates in regular check points with vendor representatives and members of user groups as appropriate.
  • Maintains communication with department managers, subject matter experts, and super users.
  • Develops and modifies processes and procedures as appropriate.
  • Builds order sets, creates templates, and assists clinicians with setting up personalization within the system as appropriate.
  • Based on knowledge of EHR systems and input from end-users, makes recommendations for application enhancements.
  • Reviews new EHR products, modules, and functionality and becomes familiar with program applications.
  • Reviews new/existing technology for efficiency gains with EHR usage.
  • Works extensively with clinical and support staff to implement new features within software upgrades.
  • Facilitates meetings with clinical and support staff to outline workflow and processes to help enhance EHR utilization.
  • Provides onsite support for clinical and support staff during new implementations and regularly during typical usage.
  • Helps maintain and modify options within the system, such as content and layout, system profiles, data tables, system settings and parameters. Components will vary by system.
  • Modifies system processes as necessary and maintains updated user guides to reflect changes.
  • Provides end-user support to employees, managers, and the organization as needed.
  • Periodically provides refresher training to existing users.
  • Conducts and leads periodic audits to monitor compliance to established procedures.
  • Evaluates clinical needs and requests and coordinates changes and additions within the system.
  • Leads the creation of standard practices for the input and maintenance of all related information ensuring data accuracy and procedural compliance.
  • Oversees new projects, system upgrades, and other system changes as necessary or regulated.
  • Assists clinical staff with the interpretation of data provided by the system.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or similar clinical discipline (Pharmacy, OT, PT, etc.)
  • RN license or licensure in similar clinical discipline (PharmD, OT, PT, etc.)
  • 3-5 years of work experience in a clinical setting
  • Working knowledge of clinical workflows and operations
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Demonstrated analytical skills
  • Within 6 months of hire, all clinical informaticists III must obtain EpicCare Principal Training Certification (previous certification accepted)
  • Hands on experience with clinical systems
  • Experience with training end-users on systems
  • Informatics experience and/or education in this area preferred
  • CPEHR, CPHIT, or CPHIE certification, or equivalent Health IT certification preferred
