About This Role:

The Software Engineer develops industrial applications to collect, display, and analyze manufacturing information using Ignition software from Inductive Automation. Ignition is based on IT-standard technologies of SQL, Java, Python, MQTT & OPC UA. This position utilizes those technologies and works with a small team of Software Engineers in an Agile development environment.

Essential Job Functions/Tasks:

1. Communicates with a cross functional team to determine software requirements, evaluate software performance, and improve customer experience.

2. Develops user interfaces (UI), dashboards, and reports using Python, Java, JavaScript, and SQL databases. Designs, queries, maintains, and optimizes SQL databases.

3. Utilizes Object Oriented Programming and ensures code quality with Test Driven Development.

4. Evaluates manufacturing systems and processes for integration and improvement.

5. Uses corporate ticketing software to track and update requests for changes and bug fixes.

6. Troubleshoots Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) connections and programs. Proposes program changes.

7. Troubleshoots computer hardware and networking problems.

8. Protects the organization’s brand image, integrity and consistency wherever it appears internally, publicly and electronically, maintaining a defined set of graphic standards.

9. Uses Agile development methods to enable and execute Continuous Deployment with Continuous Delivery. Participates in scrum ceremonies, including Estimating, Sprint Planning, Sprint Reviews and Sprint Retrospectives.

10. Mentors and cross-trains other team members in order to develop the team’s skills and knowledge.

Requirements Education/Training Required:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience.

Experience Required:

Minimum three years of experience in Software Development.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's):

KSA #1: Ability to accurately perform troubleshooting of software, hardware, and database issues.

KSA #2: Knowledge in JavaScript, Python, C#, JSON, MSSQL, MQTT, Java, and RESTful/SOAP frameworks.

KSA #3: Strong knowledge of SQL database design, query, and optimization. Strong knowledge of business network infrastructure and topology.

KSA #4: Proficiency in Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and their typical applications.

KSA #5: Ability to design application workflow diagrams and interactions with Middleware and ERP Systems.

KSA #6: Strong knowledge of Agile methodologies.

KSA #7: Strong knowledge of Continuous Delivery in a development-to-production release environment.

KSA #8: Ability to recognize and act upon opportunities to learn and teach skills.

KSA #9: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Ability to interact with members across the organization.

KSA #10: Ability to work under minimal supervision and within time lines.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's) Preferred:

KSA #11: Knowledge of design practices with Ignition software (

KSA #12: Familiarity with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).

Physical Demands:

Ability to sit for extended periods of time to use the computer, to perform paperwork activities, to attend meetings, etc. Intermittent walking to gain access to areas within the facility.

Ability to climb stairs to gain access to the upper level work area.

Finger dexterity sufficient to use a computer and to complete paperwork activities.

Visual acuity sufficient to use a computer and to read and complete written documents.

Hearing sufficient to communicate with individuals by telephone and in person.

Work Environment:

Office setting with temperature controls and carpeted floor.
