About this Role:

The Project Manager manages New Product Development and Technology Development projects in accordance with the Phase-Gate development process. S/he coordinates the efforts of functional leads from marketing, design, sustaining, tooling, manufacturing, automation, molding, quality, and test to ensure that the targets for performance, quality, schedule, and cost are met.

Essential Job Functions/Tasks:

1. Develops and maintains a project schedule in Microsoft Project or an equivalent program. Updates and adjusts the schedule as the project advances to maintain the targeted end date and to communicate status to key stakeholders.

2. Develops and maintains project budgets, including tracking a target and actual value for capital expenses, labor, and unit cost. Keeps abreast of all issues that may impact these and work with the technical leads to find solutions. Keeps key stakeholders informed with periodic reports.

3. Prepares regular project status reports to keep both managers and key stake holders up to date on all issues and aspects of the project. Provides a more detailed explanation of status with detailed documentation as requested.

4. Acquires input from functional areas to develop realistic project proposals that meet the needs of the key stake holders, including estimates on capital cost, unit cost, and schedule that will be used as a baseline to gauge project performance.

5. Works to identify and minimize risks to the requirements of the key stakeholders. Works with each functional area to develop a plan that will meet the project goals and milestones. As the project progresses, evaluates and then mitigates perceived risks.

6. Utilizes the principles expressed in Hunter’s Corporate Values to develop and sustain collaborative and cohesive teams.

7. Seeks to improve both the processes and tools used as a Project Manager. Works with managers and key stake holders to identify deficient areas in the product development process and devise strategies to address these deficiencies.

Requirements Education/Training Required:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or 10 years of equivalent experience.
PMP Certification preferred.

Experience Required:

Minimum of seven years of experience in design and/or project management.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's):

KSA #1: Knowledge of mechanical design and manufacturing process.

KSA #2: Ability to create and manage schedules using Microsoft Project or similar software tools to estimate and schedule project tasks.

KSA #3: Ability to generate and maintain project budgets.

KSA #4: Ability to provide constructive input to engineering design reviews.

KSA #5: Superior organizational skills to manage project details.

KSA #6: Strong written and verbal communication skills in English to address technical issues.

KSA #7: Ability to lead and motivate teams to achieve desired results.

KSA #8: Excellent computer skills with ability to use Windows programs and to perform word processing, spreadsheet, and database management.

KSA #9: Ability to travel as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's) Preferred:

KSA #10: Proficient with Creo and/or ProE

KSA #11: Familiar with the following:

•Mechanical design of plastic injection molded parts and assemblies
•Electrical and Firmware design of embedded control products
•Software development tools and practices
•Compliance testing such as UL, CUL, FCC, CE, C-Tick
•Test requirements and processes for irrigation equipment and/or embedded electronics and software
•Mold creation and tooling of plastic injection molded parts
•Processes and requirements for plastic injection molding machines
•Issues associated with a high volume manufacturing environment
•Automation and test equipment for a high volume manufacturing environment

Physical Demands:

Ability to sit to use a computer, attend meetings, evaluate work stations and assembly ergonomics issues.

Ability to work in a variety of positions (bending, kneeling and crouching) to gain access to the lower areas of machines in the facility.
Ability to climb stairs to gain access to upper levels of the facility.
Ability to carry material, fixtures, tools, equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
Finger dexterity sufficient to use standard measuring equipment and a computer.

Visual acuity sufficient to use standard measuring equipment and a computer, and to read written material.

Hearing sufficient to communicate with department and company employees in person and by telephone.

Work Environment:

Office setting with temperature controls.

Various inside locations with varying temperatures and floor surfaces.
