POSITION DESCRIPTION:

A major function of the Internal Indirect Underwriter is to decision loans coming from automobile dealerships. Underwriting decisions will be made using the department’s current underwriting criteria and guidelines. The IIU is also responsible for maintaining communication between the credit union and finance managers, apprising them by phone of decisions, gathering further information as needed to decision a loan, and offering alternative suggestions when appropriate. Also, maintain lines of communication with management to relay any expressed dealer needs/problems.  A secondary underwriting role is to rehash declined or countered deals with dealers.  Evaluate the performance of the dealer portfolio, volume and exceptions in determining final loan decision.  The IIU will be a primary point of contact within the credit union for all dealership employees.  Other responsibilities include staffing offsite dealer sales, attending some dealer PR calls to maintain dealer relationships, making 1st payment default calls.  Willingness to work split shifts and periodic Saturdays is a must.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Decision new loan applications
  • Answer dealer calls for questions or rehashes and detail rationale for that decision
  • Call dealers to obtain a greater understanding of application or offer alternatives for approval
  • 1st Payment default call
  • Dealer offsite sales, teambuilding, communication

 

EDUCATION:

High School Diploma or equivalent  Preferred: Knowledge consistent with a degree in business, finance, or a related field. 

 

MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE:

Indirect Internal Underwriter:

5+ years indirect lending / dealer financing

1+ years underwriting experience

1+ years credit union experience strongly preferred

Indirect Internal Underwriter Sr:

8+ years’ experience in indirect lending / dealer financing

4+ years performing indirect underwriting

2+ years credit union experience

 

TECHNICAL OR SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

Indirect Internal Underwriter:

  • Solid understanding of regulatory demands relevant to indirect lending
  • Strong knowledge of Indirect Lending practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Excellent attention to detail and mathematical accuracy
  • Demonstrated success in stressful, high production environments
  • Excellence in web and PC-based applications including the full Microsoft office suite
  • Ent lending systems

 

Indirect Internal Underwriter Sr:

  • Mastery of regulatory demands relevant to indirect lending
  • Extensive knowledge of Indirect Lending practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Excellent attention to detail and mathematical accuracy
  • Demonstrated success in stressful, high production environments
  • Excellence in web and PC-based applications including the full Microsoft office suite
  • Ent lending systems

 

CERTIFICATIONS:

Indirect Internal Underwriter Sr: Ent Loan Training Certification is preferred

 

PHYSICAL/PSYCHOLOGICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time.  Must be able to perform repetitive tasks such as data entry and filing.  Must be able to communicate effectively through typical means such as email and telephone use.
