POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Responsible for the analysis and subsequent decision of consumer loan requests received from members/applicants.  This includes documenting the decisions so Lending Specialists can convey the appropriate decision and any corresponding conditions and/or action steps to the members. The underwriter will interact with members as necessary to acquire information to render a decision that is consistent with underwriting guidelines, loan policies and management direction.  They must maintain a solid understanding of the wide range of loan products including, but not limited to personal, consumer secured and home equity.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Underwrite full range of consumer loans including personal, title/UCC 1 secured, and home equity products. 
  • Interact with member/borrower to discuss loan options at point of sale, procure additional information necessary to render a decision, and explain decisions and recommended action steps.
  • Other department responsibilities including change in terms requests, software testing, meeting facilitation, or other special projects.

 

EDUCATION:

High School diploma  Preferred: Partial or complete undergraduate work towards a Bachelor’s degree in a business related field from an accredited college or university

 

MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE:

4 years consumer lending

2 years consumer lending underwriting including home equity

Partial credit will be granted towards work experience for undergraduate studies in a related field.

 

TECHNICAL OR SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of home equity lending/underwriting
  • Preferred experience in centralized underwriting environment
  • Preferred knowledge of risk based lending
  • Comfortable with use of computer and basic applications

 

PHYSICAL/PSYCHOLOGICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Employee must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time, use fingers and hands for repetitive tasks such as keyboard and mouse use, filing, and writing.  Must be able to handle incoming and outgoing phone calls.
