• 3-5 years of experience in costing in a manufacturing, construction or similar setting, preferred
• Must have excellent mathematical skills. Ability to add, subtract. Multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Must be able to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, purchase orders, prints
• Expert knowledge in MS Office, including Excel
• Ability to work independently or in a team environment
• Motivated to pursue improvement
• Ability to communicate effectively with all employees and management
• Detail oriented, organized and analytical skill
• Demonstrates initiative and assertiveness
The Cost Accountant will identify plant and cost department problems and will develop and implement improvement solutions. They will work with plant management to determine and resolve plant processes. Will have thorough knowledge of cost systems and will perform analysis of cost data to prevent and resolve production and inventory issues.
Develop and maintain accurate Bills of Materials for each model and each option produced in his/ her plant. This is accomplished by:
• Prototyping of new models and options
• Re-audits of existing models and options
• Category Audits
• Like model comparisons
Process Improvement:
• Lean Initiatives- Make sure they are getting done and reported
• Champion Cost saving implementations and follow up
• Champion Facility improvements, material storage throughout the facility
• Tracking and reporting progress on improvements
Daily Responsibilities:
• Attend staff meetings. At these meeting communicate costing issues, discrepancy issues from audits and plant material issues
• Provide cost where applicable for Sales Change and respond to all applicable SCRs
• Ensure that all plant departments have turned in damage daily by tracking scrap reports
• Modify any BOMs as required. Communicate these changes with management.
Weekly Responsibilities:
• Attend any plant meeting, employee meetings, quality team meeting, purchasing meetings
• Audit one ceiling per week for foam seal usage. Calculate the cost per floor, report results to appropriate personnel
• Provide cost detail for any necessary options or projects as required
Monthly Responsibilities:
• Review spec changes for start dates
• Investigate any unusual reported quantities
• Audit one model per month- Prototypes and / or Re-Audits
• Cost any necessary options that may be required for Prototype BOM.
Physical Inventory:
It is the responsibility of the Cost Accountant to assist Materials Manager to prepare the plant for physical inventory, Cost Accountant is to be involved in conducting inventory and responsible in the review and reconciliation of inventory at their facility.
